Position Summary

*Please note, this is a term position for up to 12 months.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Human Resources Associate (Nurse, Kinesiologist, HR Professional, etc.) in our Workplace Health & Safety Branch. This term position will provide guidance and support on health, wellness, attendance management, and the Return-to-Work program for an assigned client portfolio. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with the portfolio leadership team as well as supervisors and front-line employees. This role provides hands on HR experience in a specialist capacity, providing program administration/management and developing program evaluation methods. At a high level, duties are as follows:

  • Assess the needs of specific employees, often working in concert with external health service providers
  • Consult with City Labour Relations staff, Unions and Managers to develop accommodation options
  • In conjunction with the employee, Labour Relations, the manager and the union, identify and implement an appropriate Accommodation assignment that meets both the employee and the departments’ needs
  • Manage accommodation plans by assessing employee abilities and departmental/position requirements
  • Support managers and employees on injury claim process from initial injury claim to closing a file
  • Ongoing communication with insurance providers (i.e. WCB, LTD), healthcare providers, managers, union and other external stakeholders (i.e. employer paid counselors, physical therapists, etc.)
  • Undertake assessment of specific employee work space, environment and equipment
  • Develop action plans/recommendations to remedy ergonomic issues
  • Work with the manager, employee, union and external health service providers to develop a plan for employees to return to work from personal and work-related injuries and illnesses
  • Develop, manage, implement Return to Work Guidelines
  • Coordinate and facilitate Injury Prevention Management Committee (IPMC) meetings
  • Coordinate and facilitate Attendance Support meetings

If you are an organized, proactive HR professional, Nurse, or Kinesiologist that enjoys project work and working in the field, this is the role for you! Applicants are required to have two years of related HR experience, strong attention to detail, strong presentation skills, and knowledge of attendance management, wellness programs, ergonomics, program evaluation, and disability management.

*Note: Travel will be required, therefore a valid class 5 driver's license and vehicle will be required. A travel allowance is provided.
